《高尔夫球规则》是由苏格兰圣安德鲁斯皇家古老高尔夫球俱乐部及美国高尔夫球协会审定，世界通用的最权威职业和业余选手之行为规范用书。当比赛进行时，每位选手皆负有使比赛公平公正之责任。

　　Decision 6-8c/1
　　When play has been suspended by the Committee under Rule 6-8a(i) and a player discontinues play of a hole, he is entitled to lift his ball without penalty. If a player discontinues play of a hole under Rule 6-8a(ii), (iii) or (iv) he is not entitled to lift his ball unless there is a "good reason" to lift it (Rule 6-8c). It is a matter for the Committee to decide in each case whether a "good reason" exists. Generally, the ball should not be lifted unless the player is required to leave the area where his ball is located and it is likely that the ball may be moved or taken by an outside agency in his absence. If the player lifts his ball without a "good reason" to do so, the player is penalized one stroke under Rule 6-8c, unless he was proceeding under another Rule which entitled him to lift the ball, such as Rule 16-1b.

　　按照规则6-8a（i）的规定，当委员会决定暂停比赛的时候一名球员得停止一洞的比赛，他可以捡起球而不受处罚。按照规则6-8a（ii）、（iii）或者（iv）的规定，如果一名球员停止了一洞的比赛，他不能捡起球，除非有捡起球（规则6-8c）的“充分理由”，由委员会来决定他提出的理由是否充分。一般来说，球是不能被捡起来的，除非这名球员被要求在离开时把球从停止的地方捡起来，因为球很可能被移动或者他不在的时候被局外人拿走。如果球员在没有充分理由的情况下捡起球，按照规则6-8c的规定他得被罚一杆，除非他的行为符合其他允许他捡起球的规则，比如规则16-1b。
